Availability with Cannibalization of LRUs

Availability with Cannibalization of LRUs

TEMPO computes the availability that can be achieved if LRUs are cannibalized to minimize the number of end-items down at any given time at a site. This is an evaluation of the availability that can be obtained with the stock levels that were computed to be optimal under the assumption of no cannibalization.

TEMPO assumes that the normal operating policy is to buy spares on the assumption of no cannibalization. But we do believe it is useful to know how much availability can be increased if cannibalization is practiced.

There must be more than one end-item at a site for the availability under cannibalization to be larger. The increase in availability due to cannibalization will be greater for low availability targets and when there are many LRUs in the end-item.
